Real Madrid are all set to battle it out with Liverpool for the signature of VfL Wolfsburg defensive sensation Konstantinos Koulierakis.
Real Madrid have had quite a few problems at the back in the recent past because of injuries to key defenders. As a result, the Spanish giants will be prioritising reinforcing their defensive rotation during the next summer transfer window.
According to a report from Fichajes, Los Blancos have identified Konstantinos Koulierakis as an important transfer target and they are all set to battle Liverpool for the signature of the VfL Wolfsburg centre-back.
Koulierakis came up the ranks at PAOK Salonika and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before making the move to Germany ahead of the ongoing season. He hasn’t really had any difficulty in adjusting to life in the Bundesliga.
He has been involved in a total of 21 matches for the German club and even has two assists to his name. The 21-year-old centre-back’s consistent performances for both club and country have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs.
Real Madrid keen on signing Koulierakis
While his contract at Wolfsburg runs until the summer of 2029, he could still end up leaving them next summer as Real Madrid considers making a move for the Greek international. He has emerged as an unexpected option for the Spanish club that are keen on reinforcing their backline.
Their scouts have been closely monitoring him in recent months as he is a perfect fit for their plans. Injuries to David Alaba, Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger have caused significant problems for Carlo Ancelotti. They didn’t even bring in replacement for Nacho Fernandez who had left the club last summer.
Injuries to key stars have made the lack of depth quite clear. Madrid will prioritise reinforcement of their backline and William Saliba will be their top target. But, they are also interested in young Koulierakis who could be a great investment in the long run.
Los Blancos will have to battle Liverpool for his signature. The Reds have also been keeping a close eye on him and plotting a raid on Wolfsburg. With Virgil van Dijk in the twilight of his career, the Merseyside club need to prepare for the future and they consider Koulierakis as an ideal fit for their project under Arne Slot.
