Harvey Elliott reportedly unhappy at Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has been linked with the move away from the club at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old playmaker has struggled for regular game time under Arne Slot, and there have been rumours that he could move on in the summer in search of regular playing time. Former Premier League scout, Mick Brown has now revealed to Football Insider that the player is unhappy at Liverpool and he wants gametime assurances.

To be fair to him, he’s been injured for a lot of this season,” he told Football Insider.

“Now he’s coming back and he’s got it all to do again.

“Liverpool now have to decide that, given his return to fitness, is he going to be a regular in their team?

“Does he get into their midfield ahead of the likes of Szoboszlai and Mac Allister?

“I think they like him as a squad player, who can come in and do a job, and they have high hopes for his development and future at the club.

“But from his point of view, I’m told he’s not happy just playing a bit-part role.

“In that case, he might be looking for a move away where he can play regular football.

“He’s good enough to play in the starting XI for a lot of clubs, but he’s going through a spell where he’s finding it difficult to get more involvement at Liverpool.”

There have been rumours that Liverpool could tie him down to a new contract and it remains to be seen whether Elliott is willing to commit his long-term future to the club. There is no doubt that he is a phenomenal talent for the bright future, but Liverpool need to assure him that he is a key part of their plans going forward before he can sign the new deal.

He will not want to sit on the bench at a big club. He has proven his quality in the Premier League time and again with Liverpool, and there is no doubt that he is good enough to start for a big club. He is capable of operating in the central attacking midfield role as well as in the wide areas. The 21-year-old is a technically gifted midfielder blessed with close control, vision and impressive distribution skills. He has all the tools to develop into a top class Premier League midfielder with the right guidance.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can convince him to stay at the club and sign a new deal with them.

Liverpool will need a deeper squad in order to fight for major trophies consistently and players like Elliott could be worth their weight in gold during rotation and in injuries.
