Rivals Manchester United and Manchester City are ready to battle it out for the signature of AC Milan star Rafael Leao.
Rafael Leao looks all set to part ways with AC Milan at the end of the season as the Italian club plans a rebuild. They will look to cash in on him and use the funds to bolster their squad as a whole. With the Portuguese international likely to be made available, clubs are already gearing up for an intense transfer battle.
According to a report from Fichajes, Manchester City and Manchester United are both keen on his signature and they are all set to be involved in a transfer tussle with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal.
Leao made the move to Milan in the summer of 2019 after proving his credentials at LOSC Lille. Over the years, he has only gone from strength to strength and has established himself as one of the mainstays in the team.
He has close to 250 appearances for their senior side and has contributed towards 119 goals. While he remains a key figure in the team, the Italian giants have made a massive decision regarding his future. Despite his contract running until the summer of 2028, Milan are ready to cash in on him.
They are planning a massive rebuild ahead of next season and are ready to sell Leao for a fee of around €100 million. Manchester City and Manchester United are both looking to reinforce their attack and would love to add Leao to their squad.
Leao to move to Manchester?
Both Manchester giants are ready to battle it out for his signature. With Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku’s future uncertain, City are looking for more quality on the left flank. They feel Leao’s pace and his ability to take on defenders could help their cause.
Meanwhile, United could permanently part ways with Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony in the summer. Their departure will leave a void and they will have the room to bring in a world-class winger. Leao can certainly be a great fit for Ruben Amorim’s system.
The English clubs might have to compete with Al-Hilal who are looking to bring him in to be their next big star following the departure of Neymar. They want a key figure ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup and feel Leao could be a great investment for the short as well as long run.
