Premier League champions Manchester City have reportedly held talks with the entourage of 23-year-old Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci over a possible summer move.
According to a report by Sacha Tavolieri on Sky Sport Switzerland, Samuele Ricci is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. So, the Torino midfielder has emerged as a viable target, with the English club holding talks with the entourage of the 23-year-old prospect.
Samuele Ricci and his journey so far
Samuele Ricci has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Torino from Empoli. A native of Pontedara, the youngster spent his formative years in Italy and graduated from the youth division at FC Empoli. Meanwhile, Torino initially signed him on loan in January 2022 before completing a permanent move in the subsequent summer transfer window.
Ricci has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for Torino in the last three years, going from strength to strength with each passing season. The 23-year-old has turned out over 100 times thus far for the Serie A club while chipping in with four goals and seven assists.
Meanwhile, Ricci’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Manchester City will be one of the prospective suitors vying for the signature of the Italian international heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Manchester City’s interest in Samuele Ricci is understandable. The Premier League champions mulled over signing the Torino midfielder ahead of the winter transfer window before zeroing in on Nico Gonzalez as their midfield reinforcement. While Rodri will return in the 2025/26 season, Manchester City will likely move on from several midfielders after the ongoing campaign ends.
Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, and Mateo Kovacic will likely depart from the Etihad in the summer transfer window. At the same time, Matheus Nunes and Kalvin Phillips face an uncertain future at Manchester City. So, Ricci has emerged as a viable target for Manchester City, with the Premier League club holding talks with his entourage.
Despite Gonzalez and Rodri’s presence, Ricci’s versatility means he can become a regular for Manchester City in the coming seasons. So, it will be interesting to see if the 23-year-old Italian international swaps Serie A for the Premier League in the coming months.
