Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan are interested in acquiring the services of Manchester United outcast Mason Mount.
Inter Milan have already started planning for the next summer transfer window. They are all set to undergo a major overhaul as quite a few of their stars are expected to be on the move. The funds raised from those departures will give them a lot of freedom in the transfer market helping them go after big stars.
Reinforcing the midfield will be one of their priorities and the Italian giants will be looking to sign someone who can help replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the long run. According to a report from InterLive, Simone Inzaghi’s team are looking at Manchester United’s Mason Mount as an ideal option for that role.
Mkhitaryan is already 36 and he is unlikely to be around for long. More importantly, Davide Frattesi’s future is also uncertain and the 25-year-old could end up leaving Inter ahead of next season. As a result, Inzaghi seeks more quality in the centre of the park.
He wants to bring in a versatile star who can help dictate the pace of the game as well as create opportunities in the final third. While they have quite a few names on their wishlist, they could also look to sign Mount from United.
The 26-year-old had a sensational rise in English football. He went up the ranks at Chelsea at some pace and became one of their mainstays in no time. But, they ended up parting ways with him in the summer of 2023. He made the switch to rivals United.
Mount’s failed United move
While he was expected to be one of the stars at the Manchester-based club, the move hasn’t worked out. He has only been able to make a total of 32 appearances across the last two seasons. He has racked up just 12 appearances this season with the majority of those coming off the bench.
Not only has he failed to establish himself as a key figure in the team, but the English international has also struggled with his fitness. While his contract at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2028, his agents have already started exploring options away from United as he doesn’t seem to be an important part of their plans moving ahead.
Inter to take a chance on Mount
Inter are willing to bet on him despite his poor form and recent injury struggles. They feel a move away from Old Trafford could give him an opportunity to revive his career. His value has gone down to just €30 million and the Serie A outfit sees this as an ideal situation to knock on United’s door for his signature.
While they are keen on his signature, the Italian giants are not pushing for a permanent deal. They want to sign him on loan with an option to buy. It will allow them to get significant help from United to pay his wages and an option to evaluate his performance before signing him permanently.
