Newcastle United eyeing summer move for Victor Boniface

Newcastle United will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Nigerian international Victor Boniface from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by German outlet BILD, Victor Boniface is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Callum Wilson’s future. So, the Bayer Leverkusen attacker has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.

Victor Boniface and his Bayer Leverkusen rollercoaster

Victor Boniface has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise in July 2023. The African striker played his part as Die Werkself won the 2023/24 Bundesliga title. However, his stature has fallen in the ongoing campaign, as he has been in and out of the starting lineup at BayArena.

The 24-year-old has managed only 1,098 minutes of game time across 18 appearances in all competitions, contributing to 11 goals by finding the back of the net ten times and providing one assist. However, Boniface’s stock in the market remains high, with several well-known clubs vying for his signature.

Recent reports have suggested that intermediaries have offered the Nigerian international to Premier League bigwigs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United. Newcastle United will be one of the prospective suitors vying for the signature of the Bayer Leverkusen attacker in the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Newcastle United’s interest in Victor Boniface is understandable. The Magpies are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Callum Wilson’s future. The veteran striker has entered the final six months of his contract, and he will likely depart from St. James’ Park as a free agent.

In addition, Alexander Isak’s future remains uncertain, even though Newcastle United want to tie him to a new long-term contract. So, the Magpies must scour the market for a striker, with Boniface emerging as a viable target for the Tyneside outfit.

A summer move may be possible, with Bayer Leverkusen open to cashing in on the 24-year-old Nigerian international in the summer transfer window. The Bundesliga champions are willing to part ways with at least one high-value asset to reinvest the money into the squad while retaining high levels of the first-team group. So, it will not be surprising to see Newcastle United landing Boniface this summer.
