Liverpool identify Dean Huijsen as top centre-back target

Liverpool have identified Bournemouth sensation Dean Huijsen as top target to reinforce their defence amidst interest from Chelsea.

Liverpool have hardly done any transfer business in the last few transfer windows. While they have been relatively quiet in recent windows, the Reds are expected to go all out next summer. They will look to reinforce quite a few areas on the pitch, but the priority will be to bolster their defence and prepare for the long run.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Merseyside club have identified Dean Huijsen as their top target to strengthen their backline. The teenager has been doing wonders at Bournemouth and his performances have put him on the radar of top clubs in the country.

Liverpool are working hard to sort out the future of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk. The trio’s contract runs out at the end of the season. While they are looking to tie them down to new deals, the Reds are also preparing for life without them.

Huijsen to replace Virgil van Dijk?

Salah and Alexander-Arnold could end up leaving, but van Dijk is expected to extend his stay. Even if he does, the Reds will still look to reinforce their backline. Their priority is to bring in a new centre-back ahead of next season, and Dean Huijsen is at the top of their wishlist. They consider him an ideal long-term replacement for their skipper.

The 19-year-old parted ways with Juventus in search of a more prominent role. He ended up joining the Cherries last summer, and the move has certainly worked out in his favour. He has featured in a total of 22 matches for his new club and even has two goals to his name.

The Spanish youth international has made quite a name for himself with his consistent performances. Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on him and they are convinced that he can help their cause. While Dean Huijsen’s contract with Bournemouth runs until the summer of 2030, there is a £50 million release clause in his deal making things easier for the Reds.

But Arne Slot’s team are not the only ones who are keen on his signature. Chelsea are also impressed with what they have seen, and they could make a move for him. The Blues are always on the lookout for players who can help them in the long run and he could be an ideal fit for their project.
