Barcelona might look to sign 21-year-old Argentine attacker Matias Soule from Serie A club AS Roma in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Matias Soule is the subject of interest from FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window. So, the AS Roma forward has emerged as a target for the Blaugrana.
Matias Soule and his journey in Serie A so far
Matias Soule has struggled for stability since arriving in Europe from Velez Sarsfield in January 2020. A native of Mar del Plata, the South American winger spent most of his formative years in Argentina but graduated from the youth division at Juventus. However, regular game time as a senior footballer has eluded him apart from his loan spell with Frosinone Calcio.
The 21-year-old joined AS Roma from Juventus in a deal worth €25 million last summer. However, the youngster has been in and out of the starting lineup at Stadio Olimpico thus far in the 2024/25 season, managing only 1,096 minutes of game time across 23 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with two goals.
Meanwhile, despite his struggles for game time at AS Roma, Soule’s stock in the market remains high. Fulham mulled over signing the Argentine attacker in the winter transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. However, Barcelona might launch the offensive to secure the youngster’s services in the summer.
La Liga move on the horizon?
Barcelona’s interest in Matias Soule is understandable. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati. So, several candidates, including Luis Diaz, have emerged on Barcelona’s radar.
However, Soule is also a viable target, and he can be the backup to Raphinha and Lamine Yamal in the 2025/26 season. In addition, considering the youngster’s stature at AS Roma, he might not cost a bomb, aligning with Barcelona’s financial situation.
It is unclear if Soule will be the primary target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if the 21-year-old Argentine attacker arrives at the Catalan club in the coming months.
