Arsenal, Manchester United cool interest in Dusan Vlahovic, switch attention to Mateo Retegui

Arsenal and Manchester United have reportedly switched their attention from Dusan Vlahovic to Mateo Retegui ahead of a summer striker search.

According to Juve-Live, Dusan Vlahovic is no longer on the Arsenal and Manchester United shortlist as they have shifted their interest away from the Serie A striker. The Premier League dup are now keen to sign Mateo Retegui of Atalanta after a prolific season in Serie A.

Arsenal and Manchester United are among the teams seriously looking to sign a new striker this close season, and they have earmarked a number of names. They held an interest in Dusan Vlahovic for some time, but things might have changed in the background as those clubs have seemingly given the idea a second thought.

Vlahovic remains the highest-paid player in Serie A, and his current situation has seen him spend more time on the bench since the January arrival of Randal Kolo Muani. Juventus are likely to find an agreement with PSG for the Frenchman, which could push Vlahovic out of the club in the summer window.

In an added blow, top suitors Arsenal and Manchester United have shifted their attention away from Vlahovic and set sights on another top-rated Serie A star. The Premier League giants now want Mateo Retegui, who has 23 goals across all competitions for Atalanta, as they continue to remain in the title race in Italy.

Retegui has been instrumental for Atalanta this season, and Arsenal are already in contact to explore a summer move. The Red Devils are also interested, as Ruben Amorim continues to find the best formula and may push to sign a new prolific goalscorer following the dismal performances of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

Will Mateo Retegui suit the Premier League?

The biggest question about Retegui is not his goalscoring ability but the physical side of things the Premier League possesses. The English league is revered for the physical game, and many top-rated forwards from abroad have struggled in the past. Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in him, but the fact that they were chasing Vlahovic shows a different need.

Retegui is an international striker, and while it may take him a bit of time to adjust to new surroundings, he might thrive in the Premier League. Now, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal and Manchester United consider the 23-goal attackers their primary targets, as there are many other names that are probably ahead of the Atalanta man.
