Arsenal could make a move for Liverpool icon Roberto Firmino.
Arsenal could look towards former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino as a short-term solution to their striker crisis if his contract with Al-Ahli is terminated. The Brazilian forward has emerged as a potential free-agent option, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, but his availability remains uncertain.
With Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz sidelined for the rest of the season, the Gunners are actively searching for alternatives in attack. However, as things stand, Firmino’s departure from Al-Ahli is complicated. The Saudi Pro League club still values him despite not registering him for domestic games in the second half of the season.
Firmino was removed from Al-Ahli’s squad following Galeno’s arrival from Porto in January but remains eligible to feature in the Asian Champions League. The Saudi club is reluctant to terminate his contract before the end of the season, which leaves Arsenal waiting on developments.
Arsenal Unlikely to Pursue Free Agents—For Now
Despite speculation linking Firmino with a return to the Premier League, Arsenal are reportedly not focused on signing free agents at the moment. According to Jacobs, the club believes there is no available player who perfectly fits their desired profile.
“I think that right now, there probably isn’t a free agent in the market that fits the kind of profile Arsenal are looking for,” Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT.
However, he did note that Firmino is a name to keep an eye on should his situation with Al-Ahli change before the end of the season.
Risky But Potentially Useful Option
Roberto Firmino’s vast Premier League experience and ability to link up play could make him a viable emergency signing for Arsenal. The Brazilian, who scored 111 goals and provided 75 assists in 362 appearances for Liverpool, would bring valuable depth and composure to a squad now stretched thin in attack.
However, at 33 years old, his fitness and ability to adapt quickly to Mikel Arteta’s high-intensity system could be a concern. Additionally, with Arsenal reportedly exploring internal solutions including the possibility of using Riccardo Calafiori in an attacking role, the club may only pursue Firmino if their situation worsens.
For now, Arsenal appear set to wait, but if Firmino becomes a free agent in the coming weeks, the Gunners might find themselves reconsidering their stance.
