Arne Slot’s Liverpool have reportedly identified VfL Wolfsburg’s Mohamed Amoura as an ideal replacement for Darwin Nunez.
Liverpool could end up parting ways with Darwin Nunez at the end of the season. They have already started looking for players who can replace the Uruguayan international and according to a report from Caught Offside, VfL Wolfsburg’s Mohamed Amoura is one of the names on their wishlist.
Nunez made a name for himself while playing for Benfica before Liverpool broke the bank to sign him in the summer of 2022. The Reds broke their transfer record to bring him to Anfield. While he has done a decent job and has shown signs of the massive talent he possesses, the 25-year-old has not been consistent enough.
The South American attacker has failed to establish himself as a reliable number nine, and the club have already started looking beyond him. Slot has lost patience and he is ready to sanction Nunez’s departure in the next transfer window. While their first challenge will be to find a buyer who is willing to pay a decent fee for the former Benfica star, Liverpool will also have to sign a world-class replacement.
Liverpool keen on signing Amoura
Liverpool need a proven goalscorer to take over from Nunez and have already identified potential targets. Mohamed Amoura’s impressive performances for VfL Wolfsburg have put him on the radar of Slot’s team.
The 24-year-old Algerian international joined the Bundesliga club last summer. While he is on a season-long loan from Union SG, the move will become permanent at the end of the season. The player is certainly enjoying life in Germany as he has eight goals and as many assists in his 19 Bundesliga appearances.
His performances have caught the attention of the Reds who feel he could help replace Nunez. While Mohamed Amoura prefers playing as a number nine, he can feature on the flanks as well making him an ideal fit for Slot’s system.
With Liverpool keen on his signature, Wolfsburg could look to register an immediate profit by offloading him next summer after securing his services on a permanent basis. While he is on the Reds’ wishlist, they do have other targets. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they do make a move for the 24-year-old Algerian international.
