Arsenal progress Martin Zubimendi move amid Real Madrid fears

Premier League heavyweights Arsenal are reportedly progressing their move for 26-year-old Real Sociedad Martin Zubimendi amid his links with Real Madrid.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Martin Zubimendi is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Real Sociedad midfielder is also a target for Real Madrid. The Gunners are concerned about the looming threat from Los Blancos and have thus progressed their move for the Spanish international.

The rise of Martin Zubimendi in recent years

Martin Zubimendi has established himself as one of the best midfielders in La Liga since breaking into the first-team squad at Real Sociedad. While the Spaniard had to bide his time before establishing a foothold in the senior setup at the Basque club, he has not looked back since landing on his feet.

The 26-year-old has also been a regular in Spain’s squad in the last few years, and he played his part as La Roja won the UEFA Euro 2024 title last year. Zubimendi has turned out over 200 times thus far for Real Sociedad while chipping in with nine goals and nine assists.

Meanwhile, Zubimendi’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Arsenal and Real Madrid are among the prospective suitors vying for the signature of the Spanish midfielder heading into the summer transfer window.

A big 2025 move beckons?

Real Madrid’s interest in Martin Zubimendi is understandable. Toni Kroos has left a gaping hole in the midfield unit at the Santiago Bernabeu since hanging up his boots. In addition, Luka Modric is in the twilight of his career. So, Real Madrid can do with a new midfielder, and the reigning La Liga champions are eager to beat the competition to the 26-year-old Spaniard.

As for Arsenal, recent reports have suggested that the North London outfit will likely land the UEFA Euro 2024 winner in the summer transfer window. However, Real Madrid’s looming threat has forced Arsenal to take action and progress the move for the Real Sociedad midfielder.

With Thomas Partey and Jorginho in the final six months of their contracts and unlikely to pen new deals, the Gunners need to sign a midfielder. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal can beat Real Madrid to the Spanish midfielder’s signature in the summer transfer window.
