Chelsea will reignite their pursuit of Nottingham Forest defensive sensation Murillo in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea were keen on reinforcing their backline in the recently concluded winter transfer window and they did make an attempt to secure the services of Murillo. While they did fail to strike a deal with Nottingham Forest, the London club haven’t given up yet.
According to a report from Football Insider, the Blues will once again knock on the doors of the Tricky Trees during the summer in an attempt to sign the Brazilian defensive sensation who has made quite a name for himself with his performances in the English top-flight.
After coming up the ranks at Corinthians and making for himself with their first team, Murillo made the move to England in the summer of 2023. He has only gone from strength to strength since joining Nottingham and has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Premier League.
The Tricky Trees are pushing for a place in the Champions League and the 22-year-old has played a massive part in it. He has been involved in 23 league games and has been a consistent performer throughout. His work hasn’t gone unnoticed as multiple top clubs want to prise him away.
Chelsea to return for Murillo’s signature
Chelsea did make an attempt to secure his services mid-season. The Blues were looking to reinforce their defence and they were looking for a young star with massive potential. Murillo had been on their radar and since they consider him an ideal fit for their project, they did make a move for him.
While the London club did table an offer, Nottingham reportedly turned down a club-record figure for the 22-year-old centre-back. They even managed to secure his long-term future with a new deal that runs until the summer of 2029.
Despite the new deal, the Blues haven’t given up on their pursuit of the Brazilian defender. He remains a top target for Chelsea who want to add more quality to their backline. While Enzo Maresca’s team have massive funds to work with, they are not going to find it easy to strike a deal for him.
Since he has already penned a new deal, there are high chances that he could end up staying at Nottingham if they do manage to secure Champions League football.
