Arsenal did not pursue Marcus Rashford due to gamble reluctance

Arsenal did not launch the offensive to sign 27-year-old English international Marcus Rashford from Manchester United in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Marcus Rashford was not on Arsenal’s radar during the winter transfer window. The North London club did not pursue the Manchester United misfit as they did not want to take a gamble with him. Instead, the 27-year-old versatile attacker completed a late loan move to Aston Villa.

Marcus Rashford and the desire to improve his fortunes

Marcus Rashford will be eager to resurrect his plummeting fortunes after joining Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United until the end of the 2024/25 season earlier this month. The English international was “persona non grata” at Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim refused to utilise him for nearly two months from the Manchester Derby in December.

Widespread reports linked the 27-year-old academy graduate with several European bigwigs before Aston Villa swooped him away ahead of the winter transfer deadline this month. While Rashford did not find the back of the net in his debut outing, he produced an impressive display that drew praise from many pundits and Aston Villa fans.

The Englishman will be desperate to show that he still has a lot to give at the club level and earn a big move in the summer transfer window. However, Arsenal might not pursue Rashford’s signature later this year after the North London club refused to launch the offensive in the winter.

Why did Arsenal reject Rashford move?

Arsenal did not pursue Marcus Rashford in the winter transfer window as they did not want to “take a gamble on” the Manchester United misfit. The Gunners were not interested in a “stop-gap option”, even though Mikel Arteta admires his talent and potential.

Arsenal’s stance was surprising despite Rashford’s recent struggles, considering Arteta lacks top-notch options in his offensive unit. Nevertheless, Arsenal’s reluctance to sign the 27-year-old Englishman was Aston Villa’s gain, even though the player is reluctant to seal a permanent move in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, the English international might have played his final game for Manchester United and will unlikely feature again for the Red Devils even if Ruben Amorim loses his job. So, the academy graduate should aim to thrive at Aston Villa and secure his long-term fortunes heading into the summer transfer window.
