Chelsea eyeing €25 million Dylan Thomas swoop

Chelsea will reportedly look to sign 16-year-old American wonderkid Dylan Thomas from MLS club New York City FC in a deal worth €25 million.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dylan Thomas is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are scouring the market for a highly-rated attacking prospect and have set their sights on the New York City FC wonderkid. They are ready to cough up €25 million to sign the 16-year-old sensation from the MLS club.

Who is Dylan Thomas?

Dylan Thomas is the latest highly-rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. The USA has produced many world-class prodigies in the last few years, with Cavan Sullivan, Yunus Musah, Giovanni Reyna, and Ricardo Pepi following in Christian Pulisic’s footsteps. Musah, Reyna, and Pepi have already arrived in Europe, while Sullivan will likely join Manchester City soon.

As for Thomas, the 16-year-old has been with New York City FC since August 2024, arriving from Barcelona’s US-based youth division last year. While the youngster has yet to break into the first-team squad at New York City FC, he has the potential to make his senior bow in the 2025 season.

Meanwhile, Thomas’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Chelsea among the prospective suitors vying for the American prodigy’s signature. The Blues are ready to cough up €25 million to secure his services.

London calling?

Chelsea’s interest in Dylan Thomas is hardly surprising. The Blues have been active in the market for promising prodigies in the BlueCo era. Several prospects have already joined Chelsea in the last few years, while Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez will arrive from South America in the summer transfer window.

Recent reports have linked Chelsea with Agustin Ruberto and Ian Subiabre. So, it is hardly surprising that a highly-rated wonderkid has emerged as a target for Chelsea, with the West London club ready to break the bank to secure his services.

Recouping €25 million from Thomas’s sale can make a world of difference for New York City FC. However, a deal will not see the light of day until the 16-year-old American wonderkid turns 18. Nevertheless, Chelsea will likely look to beat the competition to his signature with a bid worth €25 million.
