Alexander Isak open to signing new Newcastle United contract

Arsenal and Chelsea have suffered a massive blow in their pursuit of Alexander Isak as he is open to penning a new deal at Newcastle United.

Arsenal and Chelsea are two Premier League giants who are keen on signing Alexander Isak. Both London clubs are looking to reinforce their attack by signing a world-class striker, and the Swedish international is at the top of their wishlist.

But, the Gunners and the Blues have suffered a massive blow as Isak is ready to sign a new deal at Newcastle United. According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, the Magpies are pushing for a new deal as they want to secure his long-term future and the player is open to the idea.

Mikel Arteta’s team have been looking for a new number nine for some time now as the Spaniard is not happy with the output of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz is not really a striker. Arsenal have a long-standing interest in Isak, who has been doing wonders for Newcastle United. So, they are plotting a summer move for him.

Chelsea have also been linked with the 25-year-old on quite a few occasions. They wanted to sign him last summer and could reignite their interest after the end of the season as they look to bring in someone who can support as well as compete with Nicolas Jackson in the final third.

Isak is ready to pen a new deal at Newcastle United

With the interest in his services growing at a rapid pace, Newcastle United have decided to take action. The Magpies want to secure his long-term future, and they are looking to open contract renewal talks. They want to agree a new deal with the Swedish international before the end of the season.

While both parties were involved in talks last year as well, things did not go according to plan back then. The Swede’s current deal already runs until the summer of 2028, but he is not amongst their highest earners. In an attempt to keep hold of the 25-year-old, they are aware that they need to make a big financial effort.

A potential new deal for Isak will certainly smash their wage structure as he will be looking for a weekly wage in excess of £200,000. While the Swedish striker is open to signing a new contract, he wants Newcastle to be in the Champions League. Newcastle United are aware that failing to secure a top-four finish could put their star forward’s future at risk. To avoid this, they are keen to tie him down with a new long-term contract before the season ends.
