AC Milan are ready to sign Chelsea forward Joao Felix permanently if he manages to impress during his loan spell.
Portuguese international Joao Felix completed a deadline-day move to AC Milan. While it is a straightforward loan deal without any buy obligation, the Italian giants could look to secure his services on a permanent basis next summer.
According to a report from Football Insider, Milan will be very much interested in signing the Chelsea forward permanently if his performances are up to scratch during his loan spell at the club.
Felix made the move to Chelsea in the summer of 2024. The Blues forked out a massive £42 million to secure his services from Atletico Madrid and they even handed him a long-term deal. While he did feature in 20 games during the first half of the season for the London club and even contributed towards nine goals, he was on the pitch for less than 1,000 minutes.
Only 12 of his appearances came in the Premier League with him racking up less than 400 minutes in the league. The lack of game time frustrated the 25-year-old who was pushing for an exit just six months after joining them.
Milan could make Felix move permanent
The Blues agreed to a potential departure as he wasn’t an important part of Enzo Maresca’s plans. With the English club ready to negotiate his departure, quite a few clubs registered interest in his services and eventually AC Milan stuck a deal for his signature.
The Italian giants were looking for more creativity in the final third and they ended up signing the Portuguese international on transfer deadline day. He has joined Milan on a short loan until the end of the season.
While the move doesn’t include any buy options, the Italian outfit will be more than willing to make the deal permanent if he manages to put in consistent performances. The 25-year-old has certainly made the best possible start as he has bagged a goal on debut in the Italy Cup.
Sergio Conceicao was one of the major reasons behind Felix’s move to Milan and given the kind of start he has made, if he carries on in a similar fashion, the Portuguese manager will surely push for a permanent transfer.
