French attacking sensation Mathys Tel is determined to thrive at Tottenham after a £10 million deadline-day loan move.
Tottenham have been struggling in the 2024/25 season. They are 14th in the Premier League and recently got knocked out of the EFL Cup thanks to a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool in the semi-final second leg. Injuries to key stars have played a massive part in their struggles, forcing them into the market for emergency signings, including Mathys Tel.
While the board is backing Ange Postecoglou for now, the pressure is slowly mounting on him. The Australian tactician will be looking to quickly turn things around and he will hope winter signing Mathys Tel can help his cause. According to a report from Give Me Sport, the French youth international is desperate to succeed at the North London club.
Tel had reportedly fallen out with Vincent Kompany, and the teenager had racked up less than 500 minutes of first-team action at Bayern Munich before he ended up securing a deadline-day move to Tottenham.
Spurs forked out £10 million as a loan fee to add him to their squad until the end of the season, and many have commented on the move. But, there is also a purchase option, which could be triggered to make the move permanent ahead of next season.
Tel wants to make Tottenham move count
While there is an option to make the move permanent, the move needs to work out for all parties involved for that to happen. The big games will determine the North London club’s chances of keeping Mathys Tel at the club beyond the summer.
Postecoglou has already made it clear to the teenager that he sees the 19-year-old as a part of his long-term plans. He is confident that the club’s overall package both on and off the pitch could convince him to stay.
The teenager is all set to have a very important role in the team. While he was earlier expected to feature on the left flank with Timo Werner struggling to make an impact, Tel will most likely be leading the line as Richarlison has joined Dominic Solanke on the sidelines.
The French forward is all set to get regular first-team minutes, and he is hoping to make it count. The youngster wants to prove his credentials, and he is determined to succeed at the North London club. His performances could also go a long way in saving Postecoglou’s job as the pressure is mounting on the Australian manager.
