Manchester United ponder summer move for Liam Delap

Manchester United will pursue a deal for 22-year-old English striker Liam Delap if they fail to sign Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Liam Delap is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on signing a striker in the summer transfer window, with Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen emerging on their radar. However, they will pursue the Ipswich Town forward if they fail to land their top targets, with Chelsea also keen on securing his services.

Liam Delap and his career so far

Liam Delap has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Premier League since joining Ipswich Town from Manchester City last summer. The Englishman was with the Citizens for half a decade but could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Etihad.

The 22-year-old enjoyed impressive loan stints away from Manchester City before Ipswich Town landed him last summer. Delap has been a rare bright spot in a difficult 2024/25 campaign for the Tractor Boys, amassing nine goals and two assists in 23 Premier League appearances.

Meanwhile, Delap’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on securing the English striker’s services, with Chelsea and Manchester United among the prospective suitors for his signature. Meanwhile, Ipswich Town will demand around £50 million to part ways with him.

An adventure at a big club beckons?

Chelsea’s interest in Liam Delap makes sense. While Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu have made their mark this season, Enzo Maresca wants more firepower in the final third. So, the Ipswich Town striker has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.

As for Manchester United, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled for consistency this season, with goals coming at a premium. So, Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen have emerged on the Premier League club’s radar over a summer move. However, the Red Devils are keeping their options open, with Delap being an alternative.

Chelsea and Manchester United should have the funds to afford a deal worth £50 million to sign the 22-year-old Englishman. It will be interesting to see if the young striker leaves Ipswich Town after only one season, especially if the Tractor Boys suffer relegation to the EFL Championship.
