Arsenal failed with a move for Ferran Torres in January

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal failed with an attempt to sign Barcelona forward Ferran Torres in the recently concluded transfer window.

According to a report from Fichajes, Arsenal knocked on the doors of Barcelona to sign Ferran Torres in the winter transfer window. But, the Catalan giants had no interest in negotiating his departure as Hansi Flick considers him an integral part of his team.

Torres joined the Spanish outfit at the start of 2022 after failing to establish himself as a key figure at Manchester City. While he might not have been one of the first names on their team sheet, he certainly has been an important squad player over the years.

In the ongoing campaign, he has been involved in a total of 24 games and has contributed towards 10 goals. He averages a goal involvement every 85 minutes. While he has good numbers, the fact that he has only been on the pitch for 848 minutes resulted in a lot of interest in his services during January.

Multiple top clubs were looking to sign him as he hasn’t been a regular starter under Hansi Flick. Arsenal were one of the clubs that did actually make a move for him in the recently concluded winter window.

Injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have been massive blows for North London and Arteta was looking to address the issue by signing a new forward. He was keen on having someone who could give him more options in the final third and Torres was a perfect fit as he can feature anywhere in attack.

Arsenal did approach Barcelona for the signature of the 24-year-old Spanish international. But, the Catalan giants turned down the opportunity to cash in on the former City star and made it clear that he was not for sale.

Despite him not being a regular starter in the team, people at the club rate him quite highly. Hansi Flick is quite impressed with his dedication and his performances, the German manager considers him a key figure in his squad and wants him around at least until the end of the season.
