Arsenal are keen on acquiring the services of Aston Villa midfield sensation Jacob Ramsey amidst interest from rivals Liverpool.
According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Arsenal want more quality in the centre of the park, and they are interested in signing Jacob Ramsey, who has been putting in impressive performances at Aston Villa under Unai Emery. Apart from the Gunners, Liverpool are also keen on his signature.
Ramsey has been a part of the Aston Villa setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2020. The 23-year-old already has close to 150 appearances for their senior team, and he has even contributed towards 31 goals.
The English youth international struggled with injuries last season, but things have been much better for him this time around. While he was out injured for six weeks this season as well, Ramsey has been involved in 25 games so far and has contributed towards six goals.
Jacob Ramsey prefers playing in central midfield positions, but the youngster has often been used as a left-sided midfielder by Emery. The Englishman is capable enough to feature in a variety of positions in midfield as well as in attack, making him a very important member in the Spanish manager’s squad.
Aston Villa have no intentions of parting ways with him, but there are clubs who have been keeping a close eye on his situation and would pounce on any opportunity to acquire his services. Arsenal are one of the clubs that are keen on having him in their squad.
Arsenal and Liverpool keen on signing Ramsey
The Gunners will be looking to add more quality to their squad this summer, and Jacob Ramsey could be very high on their wishlist. While they failed with an attempt to sign Ollie Watkins in the winter, Arsenal will once again knock on the doors of Aston Villa in the summer but this time around they will look to prise the 23-year-old away from his childhood club.
Apart from the North London club, Liverpool have also been monitoring him. The Reds will prioritise reinforcing their midfield next summer, and Ramsey could be an ideal fit in Arne Slot’s system as he can feature in a variety of positions.
While Arsenal and Liverpool are after his signature, Aston Villa are unlikely to sanction his departure given his importance in the team and the fact that he is a massive part of their future plans. With his contract running until the summer of 2027, Emery’s team are the ones in control.
