Barcelona are keen to strengthen their right-back position as they consider a summer move for Crystal Palace star Daniel Munoz.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona have set their sights on Daniel Munoz as a potential option to strengthen their right-back position. The Crystal Palace defender’s ability to defend and attack are the main reasons for his interest, and his contract includes a reasonable release clause.
Daniel Munoz has been an impressive signing for Crystal Palace. He fits into Oliver Glasner’s system perfectly. Usually deployed as a wing-back in the Austrian’s setup, the Colombian international has been a key part of the side, as the right-back has been a big contributor to their attacking game.
Crystal Palace signed Munoz for €8 million from Belgian side Genk last January. His contract lasts until 2027, with the club option of another year. Hence, the Eagles are in no rush to sell him immediately despite interest from various clubs, including Barcelona.
Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United also made advancing glances in January, with the latter in particular eager to sign a player of his profile and quality. In any case, Palace were uninterested in letting the player who had only arrived a year earlier go. However, his €25 million release clause could prove problematic for the South London side in their bid to keep hold of the player.
Barcelona keen on Daniel Munoz
Barcelona are now seriously considering a move for the €25 million-rated wide man, as Hansi Flick would like a different option in the right-back position. Jules Kounde has predominantly played that role, and there is no indication the club is planning a change, although someone like Munoz would add a new layer to how things operate on that flank.
The €25 million release clause may look decent on paper, but for Barcelona, it could be prohibitive if they have to make the payment in one shot. Hence, there is a chance the Blaugrana could open negotiations with Crystal Palace and probably even pay higher to structure a deal for Daniel Munoz, as the Eagles are unlikely to let him leave for anything less.
Munoz could be a solid option for the Catalan giants before next season, as he offers a more traditional look to that position, unlike Kounde. He will have to battle the Frenchman for a starting spot, but he has enough experience to do that, although leaving Crystal Palace would undoubtedly mean he does not have a guaranteed starter role any longer.
