Arsenal are still very keen to pursue Benjamin Sesko in the summer after failing to sign a forward in the winter transfer window.
According to Give Me Sport, Arsenal will return to the market for a new striker in the summer, with Benjamin Sesko very much high on their list of targets. The Gunners are ‘extremely’ keen on the Slovenian forward, as they will reignite a pursuit when the season ends.
Arsenal fans are in a disgruntled mood following their club’s inability to land a new forward in the winter transfer window. The Gunners had many important names on their shortlist but only came close to Ollie Watkins as Aston Villa rejected their offer for the striker.
The North Londoners could move for Ollie Watkins once again in the summer, although there is a big possibility their interest could fade away if one of their other targets becomes available. For instance, Alexander Isak is thought to be a favourite of Mikel Arteta, although Newcastle United’s huge asking price could prove positive in the chase for the Swedish attacker.
Benjamin Sesko is another name they also considered in the winter window, but much like back in the summer, there was a feeling the Slovenian wanted to continue at RB Leipzig. The Gunners have done their groundwork on the forward, as Arteta was keen to sign him last summer.
Arsenal are extremely keen on Sesko ahead of next summer, as they probably accepted their fate in the chase in January. The striker reportedly has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Leipzig to let him leave next summer, and he could be made available at a reasonable price.
Why are Arsenal chasing Benjamin Sesko?
Arsenal are not alone in the chase, as Chelsea also see Sesko as a big target for the summer. There will be other clubs in the mix, although the Gunners may have an upper hand, given they might have done significant groundwork. Sesko has contributed to 17 goals for Leipzig this term, which represents solid numbers given his inexperience in the game as well as being seen as an unpolished diamond.
The latter is indeed true, as Benjamin Sesko is far way from being a complete striker of sorts and still has a lot of elements missing from his game. Arteta views the Bundesliga prospect as someone he can develop into the mould of the forward Arsenal wants in the near future, as he could also give the Spaniard an interesting alternative to the frontline.
