West Ham United wanted to sign Endrick in January, player and Real Madrid rejected move

West Ham United wanted to sign Real Madrid wonderkid Endrick in the recently concluded winter transfer window.

According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, West Ham United knocked on the doors of Real Madrid last month to sign Endrick. But, both the club and the player turned down a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

With Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio out injured, the Hammers were in desperate need to bring in a new striker in the winter window. They were linked with quite a few forwards from across Europe before they ended up reuniting Graham Potter with Evan Ferguson, who has joined them on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

West Ham’s failed Endrick move

While West Ham have strengthened their attack by adding the young Irish forward to their squad, they would have liked to have Real Madrid’s Endrick alongside him. The East London outfit were plotting an audacious move for the Brazilian wonderkid, and they did approach Los Blancos for his signature.

The teenager, who arrived at the Spanish club last summer, has only racked up 318 minutes of first-team action. Despite contributing towards five goals, the teenage sensation has not been able have a decent role in Carlo Ancelotti’s team. The lack of game time at Real Madrid resulted in interest from clubs across Europe.

West Ham were looking to make the most out of it. They approached the team in white last month to sign Endrick and also held talks with the 18-year-old’s representatives. But, Los Blancos insisted that they had no desire to allow him to leave. More importantly, the Brazilian international also had no desire to leave the Spanish giants mid-season.

While moving to the East London club would have assured him regular first-team action and could have been great for his development as a player, those at Real Madrid believe staying with the senior side will better prepare him for the demands and expectations of representing the club. Moreover, Ancelotti would love to have someone of his quality on the bench for the big games in the second half of the season.
