Tyler Morton set for Liverpool stay after Middlesbrough links

Tyler Morton will stay put at Liverpool, as Middlesbrough could not meet the demands set for the midfielder’s transfer.

According to Paul Joyce, Middlesbrough’s potential move for Tyler Morton is now off as the midfielder is set to stay at Liverpool. The 22-year-old Liverpool whizkid was expected to leave the Merseysiders on a permanent basis today, but it appears the Championship side has not met the valuation set by the Reds.

Tyler Morton has reached a stage where he needs to play regularly or risk missing out on what has been considered a promising career. At Liverpool, he’s currently restricted to appearances in the cup competitions and a solitary game in the Champions League, as Arne Slot has his senior squad without the 22-year-old.

He was widely expected to leave for a new challenge permanently, with Sheffield United interested early on. A move to the Championship made sense for Morton, who has been keen to play regularly and build momentum for his career.

Middlesbrough appeared in the race late on, as Michael Carrick’s side were keen to take him on a permanent move. Liverpool had reportedly quoted a fee of £10 million or more, something Boro could not cough up. While the Championshi[p side were widely expected to return with an offer, Morton looks set to stay put at Liverpool.

As things stand, any move to Middlesbrough seems off for Morton, as he will hope to get some minutes under Arne Slot in the remainder of the season. Liverpool are still in two cup competitions, which will bring the 22-year-old some hope of game time, although making it to the Premier League squad seems all the more difficult unless there are some key injuries to their midfielders.

Liverpool quiet on transfer deadline day

Liverpool fans were hoping the club made a few additions in the transfer window, as they needed a midfielder. Morton and Stefan Bajcetic had shown plenty of promise back in the summer, but the Merseysiders chose to loan the latter while the former stayed put without any use to the first team in the Premier League.

Liverpool have had a quiet January market so far, as Arne Slot feels the squad is secured enough to go all the way in all competitions. Liverpool faces Tottenham in the reverse leg of the EFL Cup semifinals, with the Reds trailing Spurs heading into Anfield. Morton will be hoping for some minutes there.
