West Ham United wanted to sign Andre Silva this month, but Graham Potter put brakes on a move for the Portuguese international.
According to a report from BILD, West Ham United wanted to sign Andre Silva. However, Graham Potter was keen on other options, and the Hammers have now signed Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Republic of Ireland international played under Potter during their time together at Brighton, and the reunion could prove to be excellent for the London club. West Ham have been in desperate need of attacking reinforcements after a poor first half of the 2024/25 season, and Ferguson will be expected to transform them in the attack. The youngster is well-versed with Potter’s style of play, and he should be able to make an instant impact.
West Ham signed Niclas Fullkrug last summer, but the former Borussia Dortmund striker has been quite underwhelming. The experienced striker has struggled with persistent injury problems as well. The Hammers have been linked with multiple strikers recently, and Andre Silva was one of the names on their radar.
Silva needed a fresh start
The 29-year-old struggled for regular game time at RB Leipzig, and he needed a fresh start this month. The 29-year-old has now secured a loan move to Werder Bremen. He will look to get his career back on track with regular football at the German club now. A move to West Ham could have been an interesting opportunity for him as well. The chance to showcase his qualities in the Premier League would have been an attractive option.
Meanwhile, Graham Potter will hope that Ferguson can hit the ground running at West Ham and transform his side in the final third. The talented young striker is highly rated across Europe and he has a bright future ahead of himself.
The 20-year-old has not been at his best this season, and reuniting with his former manager could bring out the best in him once again. Potter did well to nurture him during their time together at Brighton, and he will be expected to unleash the Irishman at the East London club now.
