Everton are reportedly pushing hard to secure the services of Stade Rennais full-back Adrien Truffert on transfer deadline day.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Everton are looking to acquire the services of Adrien Truffert before the winter transfer window slams shut. The Toffees are eager to add more quality on the left-hand side of their defence, and they consider the Stade Rennais defender an ideal fit for the short as well as the long run.
Truffert joined Stade Rennais back in 2015. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2020. The 23-year-old full-back has gone on to establish himself as a key figure in their team, and he has been on the radar of teams like Liverpool and Manchester United in recent years.
Both Premier League giants’ interest in his services has waned as the Ligue 1 outfit have not been at their best of late. With the team struggling, the left-back has not been able to make the kind of impact he did during the Olympics while playing for Thierry Henry’s French team.
While Manchester United and Liverpool have taken a back seat, Everton are looking to make the most out of the situation. The Toffees seek more quality on the left flank. They want to bring in someone who can compete with Vitaliy Mykolenko for a place in the starting XI, bringing Adrien Truffert into the picture.
Everton shift focus towards Truffert
Everton were initially going after the services of Ben Chilwell. They wanted to sign him on loan, but with Chelsea reluctant to take the injured Armando Broja back from his loan spell, the Toffees could not proceed with their move for the English full-backs. As a result, they have now turned their attention towards Adrien Truffert.
The Merseyside outfit are looking to add him to their squad on loan with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer. Given his importance to the Ligue 1 club, they might not agree to a loan with a buy option, and Everton might have to commit to an obligation to buy. Since he only has 18 months left on his deal at Rennes, they could look to cash in on him if the right price is offered.
