West Ham United keen on Koni De Winter

West Ham are plotting a late move for Koni De Winter in the market, as Graham Potter could eye defensive additions to his squad.

According to Mondo Udinese, Genoa defender Koni De Winter is a late target for West Ham United before the transfer deadline. The Belgian could cost around €15 million, as Graham Potter eyes defensive additions late in the window, but could face competition for the 22-year-old versatile defender.

West Ham United are clearly not done with the transfer market, as they eye late additions to strenghthen the side. There are visible problems in the centre-forward position, but they have not yet addressed the issues with a new signing. There are links to Arthur Cabral of Benfica, with reports stating they might have had a bid accepted by the Portuguese giants.

Graham Potter may look to address the squad’s defensive setup, too, as a new defender has been mooted about before the transfer deadline on Monday. Reports are linking Jean-Clair Todibo with a move away with Juventus mentioned as the possible destination for the Frenchman. Should that happen, the Hammers might have to get in a replacement.

Alternatively, Potter could feel the need to strengthen the backline regardless of Todibo’s potential departure. Newcastle United’s Lloyd Kelly has been linked, while reports are stating the Hammers might angle a move to re-sign Craig Dawson from Wolves due to his secondary role at the club.

Genoa man Koni De Winter is the latest to emerge on their shortlist, as West Ham are among at least two or three clubs chasing the 22-year-old versatile defender. The Genoa man can play centrall or as a right-back to good effect, which could be seen why the Hammers are keen, as the Belgian could cost around €15 million.

Genoa are not keen on a sale

Genoa are still not out of the blocks when it comes to absolutely securing safety from relegation despite their healthy league position. In any case, Patrick Vieira’s side are eager to finish the season strongly, and selling the 22-year-old versatile defender would not help their cause. In any case, the Serie A side will not sell anything less than the €15 million asking price.

West Ham are not alone in the race, as Roma is mentioned as a possible suitor alongside AC Milan. The Hammers might have to put up a compelling pitch to prise the 22-year-old versatile defender away, as they may have a good enough chance to do so this late in the market.
