Tottenham have hijacked Wolves’ move for Kevin Danso, agreeing a £21 million loan-to-buy deal to sign the RC Lens defender.
The 2024/25 season is not going according to plan for Tottenham, who have been hit by an injury crisis. While they have working very hard to reinforce Ange Postecoglou’s squad in the ongoing winter transfer window, Spurs haven’t had much luck. But, it seems they have finally tasted some success as Kevin Danso has made the move to North London, with Spurs making an official statement to confirm the deal.
According to an update by BBC, Spurs have hijacked Wolves’ move for the RC Lens centre-back. They have agreed an initial loan deal with a purchase obligation clause worth £21 million to sign the defender from the Ligue 1 club.
Danso is all set to return to England, where he was playing his football during his youth days, before making the move to FC Augsburg at the start of 2014. After coming up the ranks at the German club, he even had a loan spell at Southampton.
Things did not work out for him at Augsburg, and he parted ways with them to join Lens in the summer of 2021. The 26-year-old centre-back has been a key figure in the Ligue 1 club for years, making 128 appearances for them. While he has only featured in 14 matches for their first team this season, the Austrian is one of their mainstays at the back.
Tottenham win Danso race
The experienced defender has been a consistent performer for Lens, which has put him on the radar of multiple top clubs from across Europe. Premier League outfit Wolves were working hard to secure his services. They wanted to add more depth and quality to their backline and were on the verge of signing him.
They had a verbal agreement in place and had already scheduled a medical. But, things have not gone their way as rivals Tottenham have hijacked the deal. The North London club want to add more depth to their defence after it was left exposed in the absence of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
Tottenham consider Danso an ideal fit and have managed to beat the competition to his signature. The Austrian international has completed the loan move in a deal with a £21 million purchase obligation clause. He will be signing a contract until the summer of 2030.
