Aston Villa advance talks to sign Kevin Danso

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are making significant progress in negotiations to sign RC Lens defensive mainstay Kevin Danso.

Aston Villa are looking to reinforce their backline in the final days of the winter transfer window on a priority basis. While they have been in talks to sign other targets, the Birmingham club are also working on a potential transfer for Kevin Danso.

According to Fabrice Hawkins, Villa have made advances in their pursuit of the RC Lens centre-back. Unai Emery is keen on adding more depth to his backline and the club have held meetings with the player’s camp as they look to acquire his services.

Danso spent a significant amount of his early days in England before moving to Germany and joining FC Augsburg at the start of 2014. He got promoted to their first team midway through 2017 but things didn’t really work out for him at the German club.

In the summer of 2021, Danso ended up leaving Augsburg on a permanent basis to join RC Lens. He has gone from strength to strength since moving to the French club and has featured in a total of 128 matches for them.

The Austrian defender has made quite a name for himself on the back of his consistent performances and multiple top clubs have taken note of his performances. Aston Villa are one of the clubs that are quite impressed with his performances and they would love to have him in their squad.

Aston Villa seek defensive reinforcement

Villa are looking to strengthen their squad as they prepare for a very hectic second half of the season. They will be fighting for a top-four finish in the Premier League and will also be in competition to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Their manager seeks more depth as well as a quality at the back with Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings out injured. Chelsea’s Axel Disasi is their priority target to reinforce their defence. They are working on a loan deal for the French international.

While the player has given the green light, the Blues are standing in his way. With negotiations complicated, Villa have also been working on a potential deal to sign Danso. If they fail to land Disasi, they will go all out to sign the Austrian international. Emery’s team have already made significant advances as they have met the player’s camp today.
