West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing 22-year-old American striker Ricardo Pepi from PSV Eindhoven.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United have failed with a €25 million loan-to-buy offer to sign Ricardo Pepi. However, Goal.com are now claiming that the Hammers are likely to return with an improved offer.
Pepi has 21 goal contributions in all competitions this season and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for the Hammers. West Ham have looked toothless in the attack this season and they need to improve in the attack if they want to finish the season strongly.
West Ham invested in Niclas Fullkrug at the start of the season but the former Bundesliga striker has struggled with injury problems and his performances have been quite underwhelming as well. It is evident that they need to bring in an upgrade and it will be interesting to see if they can sign the PSV star.
Ricardo Pepi could be tempted to join West Ham
Pepi has clearly proven his quality in the Dutch league and it remains to be seen whether he is ready for the step up to the Premier League if the move goes through. There is no doubt that he has the ability to succeed at a higher level and he could prove to be a useful acquisition for the Hammers.
West Ham have an ambitious project and a talented squad. Signing a quality striker could transform them. Pepi could form a solid partnership with the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus in the attack.
West Ham have been quite disappointing during the first half of the season and former manager Julen Lopetegui has now been shown the door. Graham Potter has been tasked with a revival and signing quality players this month will only help West Ham improve further and bounce back strongly.
The opportunity to move to the Premier League can be quite exciting for the PSV striker as well and he will hope that the two clubs can secure an agreement before the window closes. If he manages to impress at West Ham, he might be able to join the bigger club in future.
