Brentford will resist selling 28-year-old Congolese international Yoane Wissa in the winter transfer window amid his links with Tottenham Hotspur.
According to a report by Ekrem Konur, Yoane Wissa is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The North London giants have been scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the winter transfer window and have set their sights on the Brentford star. However, the Bees do not want to part ways with the Congolese international this month.
Yoane Wissa and his rising stock
Yoane Wissa has been one of the most underrated players in the Premier League since joining Brentford from FC Lorient in August 2021. The Villeneuve-Saint-George native had to bide his time before becoming an undisputed first-choice starter for the West London club. However, he has not looked back in the last 18 months.
The 28-year-old has been exceptional thus far this season, even though Bryan Mbeumo has garnered the spotlight. Wissa has amassed 12 goals and two assists in 24 appearances across all competitions, excelling as Brentford’s first-choice striker.
The experienced attacker has also been a regular for DR Congo since adopting the African country as his national side in 2020. Meanwhile, Wissa’s stock in the market has skyrocketed, with recent reports linking him with several Premier League bigwigs, including Tottenham Hotspur.
Move across London on the horizon?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Yoane Wissa is understandable. The North London giants have been scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the winter transfer window due to an injury crisis, which has adversely affected Ange Postecoglou’s options. In addition, Richarlison faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium amid his links with Brazilian clubs.
So, several attackers have emerged on Tottenham’s radar, with Wissa being a viable target. The Lilywhites have “checked on the conditions” to sign the Brentford attacker in the winter transfer window. However, the Bees do not want to cash in on the France-born forward this month.
Brentford’s stance has imposed a stumbling block in Tottenham’s way, and a late move in the winter transfer window will unlikely see the light of day. However, with Mathys Tel closing in on arriving from Bayern Munich, the North London giants might have their offensive arrival.
