Liverpool make their move to sign Joshua Kimmich

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have taken a step towards the potential signing of Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich on a free transfer.

Joshua Kimmich’s future has become a massive talking point as his contract at Bayern Munich is running out. Multiple top clubs from across Europe are keen on signing the German international and according to a report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool have made their move to acquire his services on a free transfer.

Kimmich has been one of the mainstays of the German giants in the recent past. He has done wonders for them since joining them back in the summer of 2015. While he remains a key figure in the team under Vincent Kompany, the 29-year-old might end up parting ways with the club at the end of the season.

Bayern are looking to extend his stay at the club but with his contract running out in less than six months and a new deal yet to be agreed, there are high chances of Kimmich being a free agent ahead of next season. With him potentially being available for free, multiple top clubs are keen on signing him.

Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been linked with the German international. City want to add more depth to their midfield after having struggled to cope with Rodri’s absence this season. Barcelona are home to some of the best young midfielders but someone like Kimmich could end up being the leader of the pack.

As far as Real Madrid are concerned, Toni Kroos left the club last summer and Luka Modric is expected to be on his way out at the end of the season. Kimmich could help cope with their absence and they do have a great track record of luring the best free agents to Madrid.

Liverpool want to add Kimmich in their squad

While the three European giants are keen on his signature, Liverpool have already made a move to sign the 29-year-old. The Reds are not desperate to bring in a new midfielder but they won’t mind having someone of Kimmich’s quality in their squad.

Having failed to sign Martin Zubimendi in the summer, Kimmich could be a perfect alternative that too for free. He could perfectly fit into Arne Slot’s system and his experience could do wonders for them.

He will not only bolster their midfield but his ability to feature as a right-back could also come in handy with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future uncertain. The Merseyside club have already registered their interest in him as they look to sign him as a free agent in a few month’s.
