Aston Villa in talks to sign Juan Foyth

Aston Villa have reporteldy opened talks with Villarreal for defender Juan Foyth, a player well-utilised by Unai Emery before.

Accoridng to TBR, Aston Villa may have switched their attention towards Juan Foyth as they are in talks with Villarreal over a move this month. Unai Emery has utilised the World Cup winner in a variety of roles while in charge of the La Liga club as he seeks a reunion with the Argentine.

Aston Villa had been looking for a new defender since the start of the January window. Varied reports are suggesting they were keen to bring in a right back as well as a central defender. The latter has become a need following the exit of Diego Carlos, who has joined Fenerbahce on a permanent deal.

Moreover, they also have a long-term injury to Pau Torres, who is expected to be out until mid-March, while Tyrone Mings also went out with a fresh problem in their draw against West Ham on Sunday. Even before the latter’s situation became a problem, Villa were in the market for a centre-back; as reports stated, they agreed on a deal for Loic Bade before abandoning the pursuit due to the player’s desire to stay at Sevilla

They also had links with numerous right-backs, including Juan Foyth, as Unai Emery wanted to bring cover and competition for Matty Cash in that role. Aston Villa were advancing for Oscar Mingueza, but the deal might be off as they now chase Villarreal’s Foyth.

Foyth has played numerous roles under Emery when he was the Villarreal manager before taking over at Aston Villa. The idea here might be to bring the World Cup winner and use his versatility as a weapon in Emery’s backline, as he can play varied positions.

Aston Villa to sign Juan Foyth?

The report makes it clear that Villarreal is reportedly open to letting Foyth leave in this window, which would fuel speculation about a reunion with Emery. Aston Villa are indeed in talks with Villarreal for the World Cup winner, as things could progress in the coming days.

There’s no clarity on how much Villarreal wants for the defender, who has 18 months left on his current deal with the La Liga club. Aston Villa have good relations with the Spanish side having previously signed Torres, and it could be a similar deal where Director Monchi would look to get the defender at a decent price.
