Arsenal are reportedly leading the race for Norwegian talent Sverre Nypan and could sign him despite Manchester City’s competition.
According to RMC Sport, Arsenal are in pole position to bring Norwegian talent Sverre Nypan ahead of a move this month. Manchester City is also in the mix, with the young midfielder in attendance for their recent game against Chelsea, although the Gunners are ahead in the race.
There’s been a lot of chatter surrounding Sverre Nypan’s future, as the 18-year-old midfielder seems destined to leave Rosenborg this month. There has been talk of a lot of interest coming through from the Premier League, including from Arsenal and Manchester City.
The player is known to like Manchester United as his dream club, but the Red Devils are not in the running for his signature. Hence, Arsenal and Manchester City are set for a close battle for the 18-year-old’s signature, with the Gunners reportedly confident of landing the Norwegian.
There have been contrasting reports from two big Football journalists, Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein of the Athletic. The latter insists that Arsenal have a foot in the door when it comes to signing Nypan, while the former broke the news of how Manchester City were keen and that Nypan was in the city.
Romano’s story was confirmed as Nypan was in attendance during Manchester City’s Premier League clash at the Etihad against Chelsea. However, it appears Arsenal are in pole position to sign the player, with some previous stories indicating Norway and Gunners skipper Martin Odegaard also doing his bit to help his compatriot join the north London side.
Why are Arsenal leading the Sverre Nypan race?
The decision to lean towards Arsenal might have to do with the sporting project more than anything. The report states that Manchester City are eager to sign him and loan him out to Girona for the remainder of the season.
The general assumption here would be that Arsenal have presented a plan that would see him play in the first team, which might be the reason why the Gunners are ahead in the race. As Ornstein also mentioned, Arsenal are in pole position, as the coming days will determine the 18-year-old’s next destination.
