Newcastle United might be tempted to consider selling Lloyd Kelly for profit, although any departure for the backup defender seems complicated in this window.
According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are tempted by the prospect of selling 2024 arrival Lloyd Kelly in this window to make a solid profit. The left-sided defender has some interest coming in from clubs outside of England, although a departure this month may appear unlikely.
Newcastle United are looking for ways to make their transfer business work. Some reports have suggested the Magpies are still on edge with PSR and cannot risk it by splashing the cash this month on players Eddie Howe might need to strengthen the squad.
They want to add to the forward line and their defence, as Howe might feel short in both areas. He might have to make do without further incomings in this window, provided the club does not sell some of their existing stars, at least until the summer. These include high-profile players like Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.
However, they might sell a few valuable assets if they wish to make some January transfers. Those may not include the likes of Guimaraes or Isak but rather players like Lloyd Kelly, who will arrive in 2024. The Magpies recently rejected a bid from Fenerbahce for the defender, although they are tempted to make a profit off his sale if the right offer arrives.
The Magpies are linked with names like Loic Bade in this month’s window, although any move for the Sevilla man may not materialise. Hence, without the ideal addition, Howe may want to keep hold of all his existing players, although the club are letting others like Matt Targett leave in this window.
Lloyd Kelly unlikely to leave Newcastle United this month
Kelly might not be playing regularly since making his Bosman move back in the summer from Bournemouth. He has only started four games in the Premier League this season, with Howe preferring other stars like Dan Burn and Lewis Hall in the positions the 2024 arrival plays.
Yet, there’s a feeling that Howe values Kelly’s presence, albeit as a squad player, and does not want to lose him this month. Even if there was interest from elsewhere, the Magpies could demand a price to make clubs re-think their stance in pursuing the left-sided defender.
