Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron is reportedly close to rejoining MLS outfit Atlanta United after sealing the agreement on personal terms with his former club.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Miguel Almiron will return to his former club as he closes in on ending his six-year spell with Newcastle United. The Paraguayan international was also a target for Crystal Palace. However, he has secured an agreement on personal terms with Major League Soccer outfit Atlanta United.
Miguel Almiron has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Newcastle United from Atlanta United in a deal worth £20 million in January 2019. The South American attacker has enjoyed phases where he has been a talismanic figure for the Tyneside outfit. However, his stock has fallen drastically in the last 18 months.
The 30-year-old has not even managed 500 minutes of game time across 13 appearances in all competitions while not scoring or assisting a goal. Newcastle United wanted to sell Almiron in the summer transfer window before the exit failed to see the light of day. That will finally materialise this month.
The Paraguayan international has also been ready to part ways with Newcastle United in the winter transfer window after spending half a dozen years with the Tyneside outfit. Almiron did not have a shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with over ten clubs, including Crystal Palace, vying for his signature this month.
Crystal Palace’s interest in Miguel Almiron was understandable despite his recent struggles at Newcastle United.
