Marseille open talks to sign Renato Veiga

Ligue 1 outfit Marseille are reportedly keen on signing 21-year-old Portuguese utility man Renato Veiga from Chelsea.

According to a report from French outlet L’Equipe, Ligue 1 outfit Marseille have now opened talks to sign Chelsea utility man Renato Veiga, who cost the Blues €14 million. The Portuguese defe deris capable of operating as a full-back, a centre-back as well as a winger. He could prove to be a useful acquisition for Marseille.

Veiga has hardly set the world alight at Chelsea, and the Blues could certainly use an upgrade on him. It remains to be seen whether they decide to sanction his departure in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, a move to Marseille could be an interesting opportunity for Veiga. He will look to play for them regularly and establish himself as a key player for the club.

The youngster is unlikely to be a regular starter for Chelsea, and the move would make sense for him. Chelsea will look to recoup the money they paid for him, and it remains to be seen whether the Ligue 1 outfit are ready to pay up. They have the resources to get the deal across the line.

Chelsea need defensive additions

Chelsea have done quite well this season, but they need to improve the squad if they want to fight for major trophies. They will need to tighten up at the back, and signing a full-back should be one of their priorities. They need a balanced left-back who will help them tighten up at the back and deliver the goods in the final third as well. It will be interesting to see who they end up with.

Along with Veiga, Ben Chilwell has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months as well. The English international has become persona non grata under Enzo Maresca, and a winter departure is on the cards.

Meanwhile, Chelsea needs to add more depth to the left-back department before selling Veiga, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to invest in a back this month. The Ligue 1 outfit will be hoping to sign the Chelsea utility man on a bargain, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
