Manchester City are within touching distance of signing Eintracht Frankfurt sensation Omar Marmoush but might have to pay a premium.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have been quite active in the ongoing transfer window after a poor first half of the season. They are looking at the winter window as an opportunity to reinforce their squad and according to a report from TBR, City are close to securing the services of their top target Omar Marmoush.
While the Premier League giants are close to finalising terms with Eintracht Frankfurt, they could face an eleventh-hour price hike. Not securing a Julian Alvarez replacement in the summer has caused problems for Guardiola’s team and they are looking to address the issue in the ongoing window.
They are looking at Marmoush as an ideal replacement for the Argentine World Cup winner. The Egyptian international has the second-best numbers in attack in all of Europe with 34 goal contributions (20 goals, 14 assists) in 26 outings. He is only behind Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
City on the verge of signing Marmoush
The 25-year-old’s ability to play anywhere in attack along with his impressive performances have made him a priority target for City who initially discovered that his price tag was £50 million. They have already held talks with the player and he has agreed to make the move to Manchester.
While Frankfurt didn’t want to lose out on him mid-season and were internally confident that no one would be willing to meet their demands, City are quite determined to strike a deal. Both clubs are involved in discussions related to add-ons which could go up to £10 million as a whole.
Frankfurt increase asking price
City were hoping to get the deal over the line by the weekend. While the report by TBR suggested that the writing was on the wall, a report from GiveMeSport has revealed that Frankfurt have made a last-minute decision to increase their demands.
They were initially looking for £50 million but now the Bundesliga outfit seek a massive £65 million to sanction his mid-season departure. Their decision to increase the asking fee has a lot to do with the fact that Arsenal have decided against getting involved in a bidding war despite initially showing interest in him.
City reportedly ready to pay £58 million as they are desperate to get a deal over the line. As a result, it will be interesting to see how things pan out from here on.
