Manchester City finalising deal to sign Vitor Reis

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are close to striking a deal worth €30-35 million for Palmeiras defensive sensation Vitor Reis.

After a poor first half of the season, Manchester City are looking at the winter transfer window as an opportunity to reinforce their squad and get things back on track. They have been quite active so far and according to a report from UOL, City are finalising the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Vitor Reis.

The 19-year-old centre-back is considered to be one of the best young defenders in the world and City have reportedly agreed terms with Palmeiras for his transfer. The Premier League have won the race for his signature amidst interest from some of the biggest clubs across Europe.

Reis has been a part of the Brazilian club since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team last summer. He already has 22 appearances for the senior side and his performances at the youth as well as the senior level haven’t gone unnoticed.

City’s close in on Reis’ signature

While his contract at Palmeiras runs until the end of 2028, clubs have been trying to lure him away for some time. City are one of the clubs that have been monitoring his progress since the start of the season and they have finally made moves to bring him to Manchester.

The Premier League giants are looking to address quite a few problems in their squad in the ongoing window. One of their priorities is to strengthen their backline. They are looking to freshen things up by signing young stars who can help them in the short as well as the long run.

City are already closing in on the signature of Abdukodir Khusanov and have agreed terms with Palmeiras to bring Reis to England. Both clubs have recently finalised the transfer. While the Brazilian outfit were looking for a fee of around €40 million, the final fee is expected to be between €30-35 million.

While there were other clubs keen on signing the 19-year-old with Brighton being one of them, City have managed to beat the competition to his signature.
