Premier League champions Manchester City have reportedly offered €50 million to sign Uzbeki prodigy Abdukodir Khusanov from Ligue 1 club RC Lens.
According to an update by reputed German journalist Patrick Berger, Abdukodir Khusanov is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are keen on signing the RC Lens whizkid in the winter transfer window, and they have submitted a bid worth €50 million, including bonuses to sign the Uzbeki wonderkid from the Ligue 1 club.
In addition, the highly-rated centre-back is keen on moving to the Premier League, with City offering him a long-term contract. Meanwhile, a report by French outlet L’Equipe has suggested that Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have given up on landing Khusanov in the winter transfer window.
The rise and rise of Abdukodir Khusanov
Abdukodir Khusanov has seen his stock soar in recent months. The 20-year-old has been with RC Lens since July 2023, and he has come leaps and bounds in the last 18 months. The young defensive sensation has turned out 31 times thus far for the Ligue 1 club while chipping in with one assist.
Meanwhile, Khusanov’s exploits have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, with Premier League bigwigs, in particular, vying for his signature. Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have been the prospective suitors for the Uzbekistan international heading into the winter transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Abdukodir Khusanov makes sense. The North London giants are keen on signing a centre-back to complete Ange Postecoglou’s central defensive unit. However, while the RC Lens prodigy has been a top target for Tottenham, they have feared missing out on the youngster. The Lilywhites have now “thrown in the towel” amid the recent updates.
As for Manchester City, the Premier League champions have advanced their move for the 20-year-old centre-back in the last few days. Ruben Dias faces an uncertain future at the Etihad, making Khusanov a viable target to be the Portuguese defender’s long-term replacement.
With Manchester City submitting a bid worth €50 million to RC Lens, an agreement between the two clubs might be on the cards. Tottenham and Newcastle United’s stance also boosts City’s prospects, and the 20-year-old Uzbeki whizkid should arrive at the Etihad soon.
