Aston Villa rival Manchester City, Newcastle United in Tidiam Gomis chase, open talks

Aston Villa are in talks with Caen for teenage winger Tidiam Gomis, with Manchester City and Newcastle United also in the mix.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Aston Villa have opened talks with Caen to sign Tidiam Gomis this month after the 18-year-old French attacking prodigy refused to sign a new contract. With less than six months left on his current deal, a sale could transpire, as Manchester City and Newcastle United are also in the mix.

The report states it might take a fee of £1.7 million to get the deal done with Caen for their exciting 18-year-old French attacking prodigy Tidiam Gomis. The winger has refused to sign a new contract with the Ligue 2 side, and the club do not want to lose him for free, and hence willing to sell him on a cut-price deal.

Manchester City have expressed an interest in Tidiam Gomis, who they found in their bid to track every big young prospect in the market. The 18-year-old French attacking prodigy’s availability on the cheap will have some bearing on their thinking. Still, they will view this as a big market opportunity to bring a promising young attacker to their first team setup.

Manchester City may have drawn up a plan to sign Gomis and then loan him out to one of their other clubs part of the City Football Group. This will be viewed as a solid pathway for the youngster to succeed in his career as he looks to move out of Ligue 2 side Caen.

Newcastle United are also keen, with Eddie Howe keen on bringing in a wide attacker, although a left-winger might not be a priority at this point. They might see the price point as an opportunity of sorts, although, at this moment, the Magpies and even Manchester City might be behind in the race to Aston Villa.

Aston Villa in talks for Tidiam Gomis

Aston Villa have been active in the current market, with Unai Emery and Monchi planning some moves, as well as some exits. Jaden Philogene has already had his medicals with Ipswich Town, and Villa are chasing Donyell Malen to shore up their attacking areas.

Malen is not seen as a replacement for Philogene, but Tidiam Gomis might be viewed as one. Aston Villa are reportedly in talks with Caen over a transfer for the 18-year-old French attacking prodigy and could consider themselves as the front runners.

The difference between moving to Aston Villa and Manchester City is the opportunity to grow with the first team under Emery, which might entice Gomis to join the Birmingham side over their Manchester counterparts.
