Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing 30-year-old Malian defender Senou Coulibaly from Omonia Nicosia.
According to a report by Africa Foot, Senou Coulibaly has emerged as a surprise target for Premier League club. Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are vying for the signature of the Omonia Nicosia centre-back. The Hammers have already submitted an enquiry for the 30-year-old defender.
Who is Senou Coulibaly?
Senou Coulibaly has had an unheralded career thus far. A native of Pontoise, the French-born African defender spent his formative years in his hometown and graduated from the youth division at Cergy-Pontoise FC. The experienced defender was in France until 2023 before joining Omonia Nicosia in the summer transfer window of that year.
The 30-year-old has made considerable progress at Omonia Nicosia, and he has been a mainstay at the back this season. Coulibaly has been a well-rounded asset for the Cypriot club this season, blocking 37 shots while making 57 interceptions and finding the back of the net five times in 26 appearances across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Coulibaly’s progress in the last 18 months have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards for the experienced centre-back, with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United vying for his signature.
London calling?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Senou Coulibaly is surprising yet understandable. While Ange Postecoglou is keen on adding a centre-back to complete his squad’s central defensive unit, he essentially requires a backup option to Cristian Romeo and Micky van de Ven. So, Coulibaly is an option worth considering for Tottenham.
As for West Ham United, Jean-Clair Todibo has struggled to make his mark since arriving from OGC Nice in the summer transfer window. So, the East London club should dip into the market for another centre-back. Coulibaly has thus emerged as a viable target for West Ham.
The Hammers have already submitted an enquiry for the 30-year-old Malian international. Meanwhile, Tottenham and West Ham face stiff competition from Fiorentina for the Omonia Nicosia centre-back, and a three-way battle might be on the cards.
