Manchester City have reporteldy held talks with Jorge Mendes and RC Lens amid their interest in defensive sensation Abdukodir Khusanov.
According to Foot Mercato, Manchester City have stepped up their interest in. Abdukodir Khusanov, with the club holding talks with RC Lens and Jorge Mendes. The latter is the supper agent involved in finding a new club for the 20-year-old Ligue 1 whizkid, with Newcastle United and Real Madrid also among those interested.
RC Lens have made it clear that they are willing to sell Abdukodir Khusanov in this month’s window for the right price. The Ligue 1 side are eager to attract big transfer fees, with the report stating they are keen to bring in more than €25 million from the sale of the 20-year-old defender.
Arsenal and Chelsea are monitoring his situation, while there’s further interest from the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle United, PSG and Real Madrid. There are other sides from Europe showing an interest as well, which certainly points to an elaborate race to sign the defender, meaning the final decision might be made in the latter stages of the window rather than in the coming days.
Real Madrid and Newcastle United are keen, as Jorge Mendes has taken on the mandate to find Khusanov, his new club. Both teams are eager to strengthen their backline, but it remains to be seen whether either is willing to pay what’s necessary to sign the defender, who, despite his talent, lacks experience.
Manchester City are also part of the chase, with Pep Guardiola’s side making an approach recently to figure out the details if they were to make a move. The Catalan boss is eager to refresh his backline and would like a young addition such as Khusanov, although there are no guarantees of regular playing time should he join Manchester City.
Manchester City hold talks with RC Lens and Jorge Mendes
Khusanov is open to joining a top club and certainly has a lot of clubs chasing his signature. With regards to the Manchester City interest, the club has reportedly held talks with Mendes and RC Lens over a potential move for the 20-year-old Ligue 1 whizkid. However, any decision will remain with the defender rather than the stakeholders in the deal.
While RC Lens are eager to sell him to the highest bidder, Khusanov could still prioritise a sporting project that suits his career rather than joining a club with a huge name, like Manchester City. Hence, it’s appropriate to think the 20-year-old’s move away from the French side will depend on a lot of factors, as suitors will have to wait until later this month to find out what the player wants.
