Chelsea contemplate recalling Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace loan

Chelsea are exploring the option of bringing Trevoh Chalobah back to the club this month despite being settled at Crystal Palace.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are contemplating recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Crystal Palace. The 25-year-old resurgent defender has been a key member of Oliver Glasner’s side, as all eyes will be on the Blues and whether they follow through with the idea of cancelling his deal at Selhurst Park.

Chelsea are in the market for a new defender, as Enzo Maresca is not happy with his current option. Tosin Adarabioyo, Axel Disasi, and Benoit Badiashile have not been up to the mark. At the same time, original first-choice right-sided centre-back Wesley Fofana has suffered a long-term injury once again.

Hence, Chelsea are hopeful of bringing a new centre-back to partner with Levi Colwill for the second half of the season in. a bid to finish the campaign strongly. Former academy star Marc Guehi has emerged as a target, although there are complications to signing him. Still, Chelsea does hold the first refusal right for any bid that Crystal Palace recieve.

They could also face a blow in the Illia Zabarnyi chase, as Bournemouth are set to play hardball and ensure they keep hold of the Ukrainian centre-back. The latest option to emerge on their shortlist is to recall Trevoh Chalobah, who has had a fantastic season with Crystal Palace having joined the Eagles on a season-long loan deal.

Chelsea are contemplating cancelling the 25-year-old resurgent star’s contract at Selhurst Park, which will cost them a modest cancellation fee. There are doubts about whether a break clause was inserted in the 25-year-old’s loan deal, although Palace could face a blow if the Blues were to follow through with the idea of recalling him.

Will Chalobah return to Chelsea?

While it may seem simple to exercise their right as the parent club, things could also depend on Trevoh Chalobah and whether he wants to make a return to Chelsea. The 25-year-old was frozen out of their plans and his entourage were livid for the fact that the club used him as a pawn for their PSR problems.

If Chelsea are intent and want to bring Chalobah back to the club, then there is probably nothing the defender could do, as this area of the deal needs more clarity. For now, it appears the on-loan Chelsea man seems happy with life at Selhurst Park, as leaving Crystal Palace midway through the season will come as a blow for him personally as well as for the Eagles in their quest to finish the season strongly.
