Arsenal line up Mikkel Damsgaard move

Arsenal will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Danish international Mikkel Damsgaard from Premier League club Brentford this month.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Mikkel Damsgaard is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners have been scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the winter transfer window. So, the Brentford star has emerged as a target for the North London club, with the Bees valuing him at around €40 million to reluctantly sell him this month.

Mikkel Damsgaard and his Brentford journey so far

Mikkel Damsgaard has made gradual progress since joining Brentford from Sampdoria in August 2022. The Dane rose in prominence during his exploits at UEFA Euro 2020, inspiring his national side to reach the semi-finals. However, he has taken some time to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The 24-year-old has been solid thus far this season, amassing three goals and seven assists in 24 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Damsgaard’s progress at Brentford has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe.

A move across the Premier League, and more specifically London, might be on the cards for the Danish international this year. Arsenal will look to sign the versatile attacker before the winter transfer window shuts down. While Brentford would prefer not to sell the player, they might reluctantly accept a bid worth around €40 million.

Move across London on the horizon?

Arsenal’s interest in Mikkel Damsgaarad is understandable. The Gunners have been scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the winter transfer window. While Arsenal will look to sign an emergency cover for Bukayo Sakathis month, a forward capable of reprising roles across the frontline will be a solid addition to the first-team squad.

So, Damsgaard is a viable target for Arsenal, considering he can reprise every role in the offensive department. However, it is unclear if the Gunners are ready to cough up €40 million to sign the Dane from their fellow London club.

Considering Damsgaard took some time to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Brentford, paying €40 million for a mid-season deal might not be sensible. However, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal will meet Brentford’s asking price to sign the 24-year-old Danish international.
