Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle United vying for Marco Asensio

Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing 28-year-old Spanish international Marco Asensio from Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Marco Asensio faces an uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 champions are ready to entertain offers worth around €25-30 million to part ways with the Spanish international. Meanwhile, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United are vying for the signature of the former Real Madrid attacker.

Marco Asensio and his PSG problems

Marco Asensio has struggled to stamp his authority since joining Paris Saint-Germain in a Bosman move in July 2023 after his contract with Real Madrid expired. The Spaniard was eager to embark on a new adventure and start afresh in Ligue 1, but he has blown hot and cold in the last 18 months.

The 28-year-old has been in and out of the PSG starting lineup this season, managing only 748 minutes of game time across 15 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with two goals and four assists. However, Asensio’s stock in the market remains high, with Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United vying for his services.

Premier League adventure on the horizon?

Arsenal could have signed the Spanish international in the summer transfer window but decided not to pursue his signature. However, they can do with a player like Asensio amid the need for a wide attacker heading into the second half of the 2024/25 season. So, the PSG forward has emerged as a target for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s interest in Marco Asensio is understandable. The West Midlands outfit mulled over signing the Spaniard before he joined PSG before the deal failed to see the light of day. However, amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Emiliano Buendia, Asensio is an option worth considering.

As for Newcastle United, Miguel Almiron has faced an uncertain future at St. James’ Park heading into the winter transfer window. So, the Magpies need a replacement, with the struggling PSG attacker emerging as a viable target. Meanwhile, the former Real Madrid forward will not cost a bomb, with Les Parisiens demanding around €25-30 million to part ways with him.

Despite his struggles, the 28-year-old Spanish international is an appealing target for a valuation of €25-30 million. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United are ready to meet PSG’s asking price in the coming days.
