Tottenham eyeing up a move for Thomas Kristensen

Tottenham have added Thomas Kristensen to their list of centre-back targets for January, with Leicester City also keen.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are ready to rival Leicester City for the signature of Thomas Kristensen in this month’s transfer window. The north Londoners are looking to prioritise a centre-back signing to solve their defensive depth issue, and the Udinese defender could come for a modest fee.

The report states Udinese values Thomas Kristensen at £16.5 million, which seems like a modest fee compared to what Premier League sides can afford. The Danish defender has been impressive for the Serie A side since joining in 2023, although the Italian side might consider selling him if they can get the desired price.

Kristensen has been hampered by injury issues this season, which have restricted him to just seven appearances in Serie A, including four starts. He’s still been good in a season that promises a European finish for Udinese, and while they would ideally like to retain their current squad, a sale is not impossible to contemplate.

Tottenham and Leicester City are among the clubs interested. At the £16.5 million price stated in the report, it should not be much of a problem for either side to find an agreement with Udinese for the sale of Kristensen. Spurs are looking at defenders to solve their depth issue in that specific area, as Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven continue to spend time in the treatment room.

Spurs could be willing to make a bid this month, although the idea of Leicester City coming into the race poses a different challenge. The Foxes can potentially offer him a starring role in their team, unlike Spurs, who might view the £16.5 million-rated Serie A defender only as a backup option to their current first choices. Hence, Leicester’s interest cannot be ignored, although one would assume Spurs to lead the chase.

Tottenham keen to add a new defender

Ange Postecoglou has suffered from a lack of depth in the central defensive positions, having had to play midfielder Archie Gray alongside Radu Dragusin for a long stretch of games. There are a few names linked with a January move with Spurs, with AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori one of those on that target list

One player who might not be made available is Illia Zabarnyi, as Bournemouth are likely to play hardball in their efforts to keep the Ukrainian. In any case, Postecoglou wants the position sorted in this month’s transfer window. He wants an able defender such as Kristensen to come in to provide cover and competition for their existing options at the back.
