Tottenham at risk of being priced out of Patrick Dorgu move

Tottenham might not have the funds to afford a deal worth over £30 million for Patrick Dorgu, with the US Lecce prodigy also a target for Chelsea and Liverpool.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Patrick Dorgu is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The US Lecce prodigy is also a target for Chelsea and Liverpool. Meanwhile, the Serie A club will demand over £30 million to part ways with the Danish international, although the North London outfit will unlikely have the funds to afford a deal.

The rise of Patrick Dorgu

Patrick Dorgu has established himself as one of the best young prospects in Serie A since joining US Lecce from Nordsjaelland. The Dane spent the 2022/23 season on loan at the club before completing a permanent move in July 2023. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds.

The 20-year-old has become a regular for the US Lecce first team, with his exploits helping him establish a foothold in his national squad. Dorgu has turned out over 50 times thus far for the Serie A club while chipping in with five goals and one assist.  Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting Premier League bigwigs like Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Premier League move on the horizon?

While Dorgu is transitioning into a wide attacker, he is also a left-back. Those qualities make the Danish international a viable target for Chelsea ahead of the two transfer windows next year. Recent reports have pointed to Chelsea being in the pole position to land the highly-rated prospect.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in Patrick Dorgu is understandable. Andrew Robertson is on the wrong side of 30 and has endured a drop in performance levels. So, Liverpool can do with a new left-back, while the US Lecce prodigy’s progress makes him an appealing prospect for the offensive department.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou wants another option for the left-back berth. In addition, Dorgu can be a candidate for the offensive unit amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Richarlison. So, the Dane is a viable target, although US Lecce’s asking price of over £30 million complicates matters for Tottenham.

The report has claimed that Tottenham will have a budget restriction of £25 million in the winter transfer window. So, the Serie A club’s asking price of over £30 million rules the Lilywhites out of the running amid his links with Chelsea and Liverpool.
