Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal establish contact as they look to sign Barcelona winger Dani Olmo amidst interest from Chelsea.
Dani Olmo could be on the move in the ongoing transfer window if Barcelona fail to register him for the second half of the season. His contract situation has become a massive talking point and there is no shortage of interest in the service of the Spanish international.
According to Mundo Deportivo via SportWitness, Arsenal have already taken a step towards signing him. Mikel Arteta’s team were the first to call to learn more about a potential transfer. Apart from the Gunners, Chelsea are also interested in the Spanish attacking midfielder.
Olmo made the move to Barcelona in the summer on the back of his impressive performances for RB Leipzig. He returned to his boyhood club after a decade and has had an exciting start to life in Spain with seven-goal contributions in his 15 outings.
While it surely was a promising start, Olmo’s future at the Spanish club has become a big taking point. Despite the fact that his current deal with them runs until the summer of 20230, the former Leipzig start could leave Barcelona on a free transfer in the ongoing window.
After forking out a massive fee to sign him, the Catalan giants could only register him for the first half of the season. While they have been trying everything in their power, Hansi Flick’s team haven’t been able to register him with La Liga for the second half of the season.
Increasing interest in Olmo from England
According to a clause in his contract, Olmo can now choose to walk away from the club as a free agent and multiple top clubs are looking to make the most out of it. Chelsea and Arsenal are two clubs who are keen on his signature.
Both Premier League outfits have made contact to sign the Spanish attacking midfielder. Mikel Arteta’s team were the ‘first to call’ to learn more about a potential transfer as they look to win the race for his signature.
He could bolster the flanks for Arteta’s team and be an ideal cover for two of his biggest stars Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka. While Chelsea already have a lot of quality in the final third of the pitch, they won’t mind having another star forward in Olmo.
While multiple top clubs are after the Spanish international and he can leave the club for free, Olmo remains committed to the Catalan club and is hoping that they can find a way to get him registered.
